Is it me or are there no decent FPS games coming out for quite a while on the PC?

been looking around and the nearest one i can see is HL2: Episode 1 which is not due until the end of April. Its been a while since there has been such a period of lack of quality FPS games for the PC format. There really is not anything on the horizon that gets you really excited.

well we've had some good shooters over the last couple of years, but the best games don't come along that often. for every one good fps we get 10 average or cack ones.

sin episodes is due in march, although i don't know if that has slipped or not
aftermath is due april
hellgate london is due this spring
commandos strike force comes out in march
add-on for the excellent swat4 comes out in a couple of weeks

so there are a few titles on the horizon, have u played all the usual suspects, cod2, quake4, fear etc?

Not really that unusual though is it, most big titles tend to aim for a ~holiday season release to maximise sales. Take last year for example, how many AAA FPS did we see prior to mid-October? In 2004 we were spoilt by the groundbreaking Far Cry in spring, but that was just a game that had slipped from 2003 anyway.

If you can't see any upcoming FPS you fancy, why not simply buy some older ones you haven't played yet? Loads of quality titles out there :) Take me for example, the last 3 FPS I have completed were released in 2003, May 2005, and 2002 respectively.

i agree, a lot of people may have missed far cry, its same gen as whats about at the moment and a decent game.

it does seem like a bit of a lul to me, quake 4 was a big disappointment both single player and multi (sure mods will sort that out though).

At the moment, im waiting on non fps resident evil 4 pc, devil may cry 3 pc and oblivion.

also interested in swat 4 exp if they sort out some of the issues that were in swat 4

Every few years this happens as to get the best out of DX9 takes a lot more development time than DX8 etc etc. Dev costs are now huge.

Give it time and you will see some newer stuff but its also very seasonal so Easter, early Autumn & Xmas are when the big releases usually hit the market.

April onwards is usually very quiet.

Mmmmm, Prey.

3DRealms (in concept at least) returning to the FPS world after being out for far too long IMHO.

I know Human Head made the game, but most of the concept work is all 3DRealms.

Somehow, I know that I'm going to enjoy playing this game . . .
