PC Freezes after idle

Hi so here's the issue.

Most of the times, when I leave my PC on (for example at desktop) for some time, when I get back the PC is completely frozen. I can't move the mouse cursor etc, the HDD light doesn't flash. I tried disabling all the power saving options in windows etc that didn't work for me. However, what's pretty interesting is that when I leave the PC running for example XCOM Enemy Unknown I can leave it running for hours and it doesn't freeze. However, whenever I leave when I'm running Risen 2 Dark Waters it does freeze. It's most bizarre. I've no idea where to look for faults, please help.

Have you tried a fresh install of the OS? I've had this a few years back on Vista and doing that solved the problem.

Thanks for the quick response. I was hoping I could avoid reinstalling the OS to be honest, if at all possible.

Have you tried windows repair?

what power mode is on default - balanced ? make sure it is set to high power, also check event viewer see if anything comes up in there.
