For the last week or so my PC has started to completely freeze for about 10 seconds, the fan of the CPU speeds up like it's loading something then it comes back to life. The audio after this is distorted and I have to reload my audio devices. I have not installed anything that could be causing this and my PC is the same as it was before the issue started to occur. I was wondering if anyone had encountered similar problems and offer some advice. Thank you for reading!

Specs
i7-8700k @4.8GHZ 1.2v
Corsair Domminator 4000mhz (XMP) 16GB DDR4 RAM
EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 iCX
ROG MAXIMUS X HERO
Samsung EVO 500GB SSD
EVGA 600 B1, 80+ BRONZE 600W
Corsair Hydro H60 V2

Things I have tried so far

  1. I have run memtest64 and it produced 0 errors.
  2. I have installed my old graphics card and the problem still persists
  3. I have updated all my drivers using Driver Easy
  4. I have updated my BIOS to the latest version
  5. I have removed my overclock on both my CPU and RAM and the problem still occurs
  6. I have stress tested my CPU and the maximum temperature under 100% load for extended period was 82 degrees. Runs at 34 degrees idle
  7. Reinstalled Windows 10
  8. Checked Event Viewer for error reports straight after the freeze and there are no logs recording the problem

reinstalling windows 10 should have solved software/driver issues - did you get windows to reset itself (or did you copy windows over the top of your old installation - which may not actually have removed the offending files)?

Perhaps it may be worth reseating your CPU with some fresh thermal paste? (perhaps the freezing is due your cpu getting hot and powering down - although doesn't sound likely due to point 6)

Thanks for the reply.

I got Windows to reset itself. I am ordering a new PSU this weekend so hopefully by next week I can eliminate the PSU being an issue.

I'm out and on my phone ATM but windows released an update about a week ago that broke audio for al ot of users, ironically it was supposed to fix problems but that's windows!

I uninstalled the update yesterday because I'm having audio problems too, I'll try and remember to pop back in here and give you the update number but if I forget and you can't find it just give me a poke

Just to add to my last message the update was KB4515384, might be worth un-installing it if you do have it.
