pc freezes when copying certain files

I had this problem a few times with external harddrives, I copy paste some files, and one of them will make the pc freeze. So I copy paste some avi files from my pc to the external from my brother, and the first 8 avi files copy without a problem, but the 9th wont copy, and windows freezes up.

I had this problem before, just always one file which does not want to be copied..

Any idea? I can only reset to stop the pc freezing, and nothing is overheating with this cold weather.

Also I now tried the same file to my USB stick, and the same problem happened.

Is this a PC problem? or is it the files?

How big is the file that won't copy?

And are the disk you're trying to copy to, formatted as FAT/FAT32?

yes they are formatted the right size. the one file was 175mb, the other 700.

BAsically it says "copying" then the copy thingy freezes, then about 15 seconds later the pc freezes.

Silly question but are the files / that sector of the hard drive damaged? perhaps run a disk checker?
