PC freezing and shutting down

Last Christmas, I built a computer for my cousin, so he gave his old PC, which I built and upgraded over the years, to his brother.
Before he gave it to his brother, he informed me that it's been crashing randomly, once or twice a week, so before Christmas, I wiped the hard drive and gave it a fresh install of Windows.

However, since Christmas, the problems been getting worse.
Problems I've seen have been that's sluggish and un-responsive even when using something like Firefox, seen it crash in a game, but it was wierd, picture froze, but the soundtrack remained playing. Couldn't alt-tab or Ctrl-Alt-Del.
As I've been typing this, the machine has reset on me twice. I it on test behind me running a stress test and I saw it reset. Not a sudden reset, all the programs and windows I had open shut down in turn then the machine restarted. The 2nd time it was sitting on the desktop doing nothing, heard a beep, turned round, and it was at the BIOS splash screen.

My cousin says that sometimes it makes a wierd noise then just restarts itself.

So far, I've run a memtest for over 9 hours with no fault shown, I've run a full error scan with HD tune. I did notice the CPU was getting really hot on stress test, thread here. Since then I've cleaned the machine out and put on new heat paste. Running the stress test now, it peaks in the low 60's, when the machine crashed as I was stress testing, the temperature was 56°C.

At the moment I'm not sure what to test or what to do.

I brought home a VERY cheap PSU from work to try out during the week. I did a couple of hours of testing on Wednesday and Thursday and didn't see a fault, he's taken it home today, so fingers crossed.
