PC FREEZING UP :(

Hi there

My pc has been freezing really badly this last couple of weeks. SO i wanted a bit of advice

It freezes about 5-10 minutes after i am into vista 64bit xp

but then it could last about an 3 or 4 hours.

These are the things that have been changed in the last 2 weeks

Installed a free windows registry cleaner, and have cleaned up the registry.

GPU died so installed another one, that was in orginally in the pc.

Taken out both dvd and cd drives and replaced with a usb drive (external dvd rw)

This has all been done in the last 2 weeks, and then thats when the problems started

Any advice on what i should check out first?

what does vistas error log say?
what happens when it freezes? BSOD? black screen? actual screen freeze? crashes/turns off?

mouse just freezes up and the screen just freezes solid.

Error log states nothing apart from all the time "windows was not shut down propley" Buts thats becuase i have to restart it.

sure its not just a mouse problem then? dont mean to ask stupid question, but have you tried a different mouse? Or does it happen mid video/game and things stop?

nah, il be like watching a film, then it will just freeeeeze up.

Im thinking of formatting the drive then starting again. Is that wise?

certainly cant hurt, if its software related (more likely i think) that'll fix it, if it doesnt you'll know its hardware
