Finally see that Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3 are available on a certain rain forrest site but more expensive than the console versions and matching the Origin price. Hope EA cant force prices to match origins.

But they sell everything else too.

Competitors

1. Amazon and places like these etailers/retailers are fine to talk about but please do *NOT* discuss our core business products or link to them such as motherboards, cpus, mice etc.

Example,
Quote:
So buy a CD from Amazon = allowed.
Check out the price of Graphics Cards on Amazon = not allowed.
2. Digital Distribution services are ok to talk about.

3. Retailers and Etailers that only focus on pc hardware are *NOT* to be discussed or linked to.

4. Anyone caught promoting pc hardware on these forums will face warnings and if continued persistence entails then a possible ban will ensue.

So this is about PC games, so there has been no wrong doing.

well I managed to order Crysis 2 for around 25 from there and got Dead Space from around 24 so there has been a massive jump. They usually get in there early with their low prices on pre release games.

Yeah thats a very worrying trend. Its another excuse for the hackers and pirates. I thought that £30 for a A1 level game was fine (even if its not). I wont be buying either game until its in the £15 bracket. Only a very few titles i buy at release.

From EAs point of view, perhaps there has been a shift from consoles to PC in there sales figures due to the aging consoles slowing there age visually and the fact the PC version is now £10-15 cheaper at release.

EA aren't shifting from console to PC, they want both and want Origin to compete with Steam.

Game wise I only purchase games which are on deal now unless it's something I've been waiting a long time for, only games I have/will buy this year at full price have been Guild Wars 2 and if/when it's released X-Rebirth.

Mugs game buying anything digital download at full price, especially when you can get a physical copy from online retailers which usually registers on origin/steam anyway and costs 30-50% cheaper.

I'm still confused as to why DD is more expensive than physical? Are there more overheads? Does it cost more to keep servers up and running to be able to download from than it does to create millions of physical copies? If so then fair enough.

This is my point though, the price on the retailer at the start of the tread is the exact same as origin. They are usually much cheaper.:(

Once the physical copy is made, it essentially costs money to keep it on the shelf/in the warehouse, so they want to shift it (ideally at a higher price, but selling something that cost £10 to make for £5 is better than not selling it at all). With a DD game, there is no "loss" if it doesn't sell, so no incentive for sales. Well.. that's looking at it from an EA point of view, Valve/Steam have realised it's also better to get £5 for something that cost £0.10 than £0. :p

Only full price pc titles that warrant it are Blizzard games with online services. Paid £25 for limited edition Bf3 and Skyrim and portal 2 and don't plan paying more than that for similar games like crysis 3.

Can't see these games being out for a while, and I would be very surprised if prices don't fall over time.

It makes sense to me, open up with high prices on games from big franchises so all the fanbois jump on the orders, then closer to release time competition hots up a bit as more retailers show their hand so the price drops a bit.

Seems to me that EA has started to heavily invest in decent ports or fully fledged PC titles. Evidence of which is BF3 being designed and optimised well for PC. With this added effort there are more costs thus, they are trying to recoup them.

Hopefully we can see some renaissance in PC games.

From EA?
