pc game prices

I am still suprised that Skyrim is being sold for £35 on steam, it came out months ago. All the modern warfare games seem expensive also (not that I play those).

I am quite happy paying £8 for something in a steam sale to a top end of £25 for something I really really want but wouldn't go beyond that.

Only reason to reduce the price is if the sales start to drop off, so why should skyrim drop in price if it's still selling? The cod games also never seem to drop much in price I assume it is because of the popularity of the series.

It costs millions to develop one of these games, some games cost over $50m to make. And in fairness, Skyrim is worth it.

I still don't understand where all the money goes to make a game.
Companies didnt used to quote $50 million or so.

If you had 100 people development team working on a game paid £40000 each annually for 2 years to produce the final game thats £8 million so like £20m-£30m is for bringing it to market ? PC Retail sales are really low so there must be little retail costs now to take a slice more games must be sold digitally.

In reality not all the 100 people would be paid £40000 a year, some maybe more but a lot maybe less ?

You got distribution costs to get it everywhere, production costs, etc. These are just examples but there is a lot more to it than what you say.

Plus they need to make profit, so you can't just cover the cost to develop the game only.
