Hey, ive not had pcgamer now in a while and a friend bought me one to read while i recover from my most recent hospital trip and its so thin. They used to be fairly thick so whats going on here? Im presuming it still costs the same for far less pcgammer goodness.

It's because of the games industries habbit of releasing all the best games in the last qurter of the year. Over the next few months the magazine will become thicker as the amount of releases increases.

At the end of the day they can only preview and review games that are coming out at the time.

So true :( Fewer pages and more adverts in PCG nowadays and it's still nearly the most expensive mag out there. I've moved to PC Format - still plenty of games coverage but more general tech coverage too.

http://uk.gamespot.com/pc Tiz FWEEEE :D don't need no Mag

Tis also completely unreliable :D

I can't remember which game it was now, but they sacked a reviewer for giving it a low score because the publisher had spend a crapload on advertising for the game on the site. Then they re-reviewed it, with a glowing review and score to match.

Nobody fell for it, oddly enough :)

That would be Kane & Lynch I believe.

I haven't bought one in years! I think the last copy I bought was around 2004. Usually if I'm in smiths or the newsagents, I'll have a flick through and I must say the quality of their content and writing has definitely dropped big time.

Most of teh PC gaming mags are like that now - not a shadow of what they were in the late 90s through 2001/2002 or so... but thats the way things are... the roll out of broadband has kicked them in the teeth.

I've noticed recently that PCPLUS, along with a few other PC magazines I used to read get quite thin. Which is a bit disappointing, especially when the magazine costs £5.99.

Only agree, bought a copy of this months issue for the long coach ride out to here in spain, i was done reading it page to page within a couple of hours, 10 years ago when i first started buying it, double/thrice the size.

Saying that though, you want value for money, buy retro gamer, they never run out of stuff to print:)

Volume 3 of the round up collection might cost a tenner, but it was 250 pages of interesting takes on things that lasted me out the journey.

Seems to be a growing trend with all Future Publishing mags (PC Gamer, PC Zone, PC Format, PC Plus etc), lower paper quality and less pages.

Imagine Publishing on the other hand are sticking to high quality paper and page count. All round better writing too. They publish Total PC Gaming, Retro Gamer, Games TM, X360, Play and 360.

It's fun to compare the parts of the magazines that the teams don't normally focus on, such as the DVDs:
