I'm new to playing games on the pc and thought that all the games would obviously be compatible with a control pad, how wrong can i be! Can i download patches that make the games compatible or is that only possible with certain games? I've got shellshock 2 at the moment that isn't compatible with a control pad, is there a way i can get round this?

Certain games are compatible out of the box, most others you can change the key bindings if you wish.

They're designed mostly for keyboard+mouse (or joystick/steering wheel), however, so it's often better to avoid the pad.

IT will always depends really on the game itself.

For multiplatform games, gamepad support is there, especially for the 360 controller. But for most PC-only games especially in the FPS and RTS genre, highly unlikely they will be supported.

a lot of games for windows will work with the xbox 360 pad i.e. Crysis, Crysis Warhead. So does Left 4 Dead. You either need a wired controller or the wireless dongle to play them.

Works fine for games where a gamepad is beneficial e.g. GRID, Pro Evo

I guess they figure nobody would be crazy enough to actually want to play a FPS on a gamepad when they could use a keyboard/mouse instead.

ALL games for windows work with the X-BOX 360 pad. It's part of the criteria for letting them have the games for windows branding

Should be straight forward then, it is cited as compatible with an xbox controlle,r in the system requirements for the game. Are there options in game to select the controller?
Read this somewhere about trouble with the wireless controller.
The Xbox 360 wireless controller outputs data differently from the Xbox 360 wired controller. That's why certain games don't play nice with the wireless controller. I found an Xbox 360 controller emulator online that emulates the inputs of an Xbox 360 wired controller.
All games I have tried have worked fine with my wireless one mind. =)

I think if it's a GFWL game, the wireless controller must also be compatible, though it does have some issues with other games. I'd highly recommend it for games like GRID, DiRT, GTA4, but certainly not for Crysis unless you're a console n00b :p
