PC games - (oblivion mostly) how would...

It should rum pretty well I'd have thought, however will depend on the rest of your system though, as there may be bottlenecks elsewhere.

Feel free to slap me with a fish I forgot to mention that part :(

At the moment I have a venice @ 2.7GHZ with 1GB of ram. BUT in a few days (a week maybe) I will be placing in an E6300 with 2GB of ram.

I am just deciding if I should get this card, or if I should just hold out and then by the 8800 GTS. I was going to use the x1950 as kind of a temp card for several months to maybe the new refresh in March/ April

My system is lesser than yours and it owned Oblivion. It ran as smooth as silk even outdoors and i have A64 [email protected] and a GS+7800GLH & 2 gig of Ram.

Your rig is fine and should own it as well.

At the moment I have a X800XT so the owning will be minimal ;)

I am just trying to decide if its worth 130 or so for at best 4 months use of a card :/

Sorry my mistake.
That'll be dependant on how much you game in a month. If you are like me and game hard and often then 130 quid for 3 months is nothing.
If you are casual then just make do with what you have.
Personally i am still on a 939 AGP set up and spent over 250 quid on my system a few months back just on a card.
Mad you say !!!
Well if you knew how my system run and how much i game you would understand completely. It's all about balance.
130 quid these days is nothing and those 1950's are putting some serious performance out looking at benchies.
I would order it Now if i was you.

Do you think its worth just getting that card now, then holding off for a month or 2, save up to march (my birthday) then come to overclockers with say 900 - 1000 pounds and then make a rig up then?

Rather than buying bits and pieces? so I have a bit of fun with an X1950 pro for now, then have a better system later?

I could always buy a few bits now that I need, like an bigger PSU and a DVD writter and so on.

Depends on your financial situation mate.
If you can afford it i don't see why you should wait for an improvement to your system.
Is it your Main hobby ? How much do you game etc ?
What else would you spend the 130 on ?
Persoanlly i like to buy things as soon as i have the wedge otherwise it gets spent on small crap that does and means nothing but then that's just me.

Well I have around 500 - 600 at the moment. But I figure I am not sure if its worth buying an E6300 + M/b+ram and then waiting for a decent GPU.

Especially since Vista is just released, I am thinking it would be smarter to wait 3 months or less and grab stuff. Still not really sure :(

Definitely NOT worth buying an E6300/mobo/ram only just for Oblivion - GPU is king at that res: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/geforce_8800_gtx_gts_amd_cpu_scaling/page12.asp

Basically a 2.7ghz A64 is no slouch and you will be GPU limited even with a Geforce8 in Oblivion. If it were me I would buy the GTS now and move to Conroe later when you can afford it.

*screams to myself* bloody hell I cant decide what to do :(

I have only an AGP motherboard at the moment, so I would need to grab a new motherboard then I could get a conroe in march (when the E6320 is released).. the problem is that I only have 1GB of ram, which isnt really that much these days TBH.

The other thing is I do more than just play games, I do a lot of photoshop work to, though I dont use Premier or any video programs...
