PC games rental

Just been in Games Xchange and noticed Gears of War for rental. I never knew PC games were ever rented, especially games that are multiplayer that need a key. But what really surprised me, on the shelf was the game case, with the key printed inside! How stupid is that? There is nothing to stop some pirate noting the key down so they can play online.
