Is it just me or does it feel like PC Gaming is very much vibrant and alive at the moment.

I'm really loving all these indie games that are surfacing and even the previews of big AAA games to come.

I don't know but for me at the moment PC Gaming has me hooked again and I can't wait to get back on my PC when home etc :D

Long live PC Gaming :D

Indie games suck mostly, there's too many of them and the quality is few and far between, we've been here before.

The cost of hardware is insane.

Micro transactions are the devils work.

It's the worst PC gaming has ever been, but I'm still here spending every moment I can on the damn things :o

I've just reinstalled C&C Generals:Zero hour and have been playing that, Red Alert + Yuri's revenge just won't work on Win 10 for me.

I find most new games don't hold my attention for more than an hour.

I think there's a lot going on right now, lots of new games, which on the one hand means lots of rubbish, but also lots of good stuff :) Hardware prices are all over the place, but you can get something like a 2200g for under £100 that will give you a half decent gaming experience in 90% of games, and I think retro PC gaming is in a good space, with Gog I've been able to go back through the years and dig out some real classics from my childhood.

I'd say PC gaming is looking pretty healthy at the moment, and I think youtube and twitch have a lot to do with it, sure there is some console content being streamed, but the vast majority of it is PC based so lots of kids are being introduced to PC gaming again, which I think is what's been missing in the last little while, as people have moved away from the idea of the family PC.

it will always be as long you need hardware to keep up with visual fidelity.
My radeon 480 can run path of exile on 4K so its getting there.

4k 120hz screens is next up for me, the dream monitor until 8k 120hz obviously.

I was under the impression 8k was completely pointless as it's beyond the abilities of the human eye, especially at monitor distance?

A good screen is essential though. I'm running 2 x 24 inch panels right now but they are getting old, for me, it'd be either an ultrawide curved screen or better yet, VR and the current screens. I'd like to try virtual desktops in VR.

My gfx card is a 280x and I'm still running most games at high enough specs to enjoy them, but then, I'm not one of those that chases FPS or spends hours tweaking.

It's just you. Pc gaming feels very dead to me.
Aye, have to agree a bit with this really.

I keep trawling trying to find something. Besides a foray into Witcher 3 and Elite I just keep going back to add more mods to Skyrim and FO4.

May give Kingdom Come a go but besides that i'm only really looking forward to Starfield, CP2077 and ES6 (you know for when i retire...).

Next games i'll be getting will be console titles by the looks of it :(

To me it feels the complete opposite. Feels like it's been dying for a long time, propped up by the Battle Royale fad. A few potentially good games due next year (Cyberpunk, Anthem etc) but certainly wouldn't say it's alive.

I think the problem is that it's not dead, it's just gone from a market built around people who loved gaming, loved making games and where it was really a specialised role to one where it's all profit based.

To increase profits they've stopped paying for testers and instead charge people to buy into Alpha's/Beta's or offer them for free.

Internet training/resources/software has increased to the point that anyone can just start making games, flooding the market in the hope they get then next flappy bird and start raking it in, saturating the market with **** or mediocre games.

Profit chasing results in companies banging out remakes/hashes of older/successful games (COD series for instance) in the hope they can keep stealing money from a brand name without putting a lot of effort in.

Hardware is cheaper making it easier to make a good looking game to pull people in without having the content to back it up.

It's just saturating the market with mediocrity.

I feel like Intel and Nvidia have done their best to kill PC gaming with their mind boggling pricing, but gaming wise i think there are lots of gems out there, indie games are a bit of a revelation for me, some absolute stunners like Inside and Hollow Knight.

The Witcher 3 is still the benchmark for me, thats what PC gaming can be given the passion of the developer, not garbage shunted out by EA ad nausea....

Hardware is overpriced, its never been about value as such but now its just greed from all party`s just adding the word PC is extra 30%

The indie titles in general do not have the production values that I expect unless your one of those rock-paper-shotgun nerds. Granted this does not make a game, but it is no longer 1986 with a tape loader.

Its been said time and time again, give me a console with mouse and keyboard support for gaming and i would drop the PC in a heartbeat.

Controllers are only good for driving games :)

Whilst this is true to the extent that hundreds of indie titles are released every month, and most are terrible, it's a bit of a disingenuous statement.

you can easily, among the bad stuff, find a dozen good or excellent indie games every month. And almost without fail, the best 2 or 3 indie games every month will be in the top 3 or 4 games released in any given month.

Two point hospital
Divine divinity 2 enhanced edition out now doing update.
Witcher 3 late to the party
Plus 20 games I want to get round to playing.

Think of gaming is doing okay. Just ignore the silly prices of new GPUs you don't need them to play any of the games out now or coming out. Ray tracing isn't a minimum requirement on any games spec sheet.

We’re very spoilt these days in my opinion, and some of the comments reflect this.

I have a library full of triple A titles and excellent indies I’ve yet to play, they could probably last me years without spending any money. Modern hardware is expensive but the second hand market is full of excellent hardware, and my ageing rig still plays great at 1200p. When I upgrade to UW/4K FALD, HDR with G-sync I cant imagine how awesome it’ll be.

We have a wealth of choices, excellent games, superb deals on digital download, awesome ways to communicate with teammates and access to a back catalogue of two decades of incredible gaming experiences, all to be accessed right from our desks. There’s some incredible peripherals, great audio and super comfy chairs, and even things like PC cases are so beautiful, easy to work in and cleverly designed now. There’s plenty of expensive hobbies out there, and actually I think PC gaming is cheap compared to some; with the ability to tinker, upgrade and enjoy is so many ways. Sure the new RTX cards are bonkers, stupidly priced and overhyped; don’t buy them. Get a 1080ti if you need an upgrade, it’s a great card that will soon be pretty cheap.

I think PC gaming has been in a golden age for a long time now. I can play at the desk, with a controller, or in front of the big screen, or with sync tech, or with Dolby surround. Not to mention I can work on it and all the other things a PC can do.

We’re moaning about what? Loot boxes? Don’t buy the game. Some of the best experiences I’ve ever had have been on indie titles, and the fact that there’s so many might make some crap, but so what? For every bad one there’s an absolute gem you can pick up for half the cost of a packet of cigarettes and enjoy for much longer.

I’d be interested to know the ages of people who’re posting negative / positive things. I don’t think I’m old by any means, but the first games I played were on 5 1/2” floppy and I couldn’t have imagined then how lucky we would be by 2018.

So yes mate, I agree, long may it continue.
