PC gone funky after 6 weeks away

I went away, not the PC.

I posted some stuff about the temps being higher in the watercooling section, but now it's just bluescreening all over the place, this time while trying to run a new spybot scan. Not sure if the temps caused it but as soon as I reset it, it went straight to another one.

What has my PC been doing while I've been gone?

Too scared to turn it on now.

Just ran memtest, all passed fine, and there is no overclock as this is a non-k version of the processor.

I can't remember what the BSODs said, sorry, should've captured them, but I've just started it up today and it's running but at around 10% load the temps are up to around 60..... So I think running a long Spybot check last night overheated the CPU and caused the shutdowns.

You can also use BSOD viewier to view the minidump.

Very useful.. :)

CTRL Panel > System> System Properties > Advance Tab > Start-up & Recovery, click on Settings.

Under system failure,

tick "Write an event to the systems log"

untick "auto restart." ( you want the BSOD otherwise you won't know you've you've got a problem or what the hell's going on)

Ok.

Well the only 2 critical errors were last night and they are both Kernel-power related. Not sure what that means but the event ID is 41 which indicates loss of power or overheating right?

Edit: I'm using the BSOD viewer, but not entirely sure what I'm looking at... :)

Load the .dmp file from your root directory or where your dump location is set to..

BSOD viewer will show the error with the file name it's associated to..

If you don't have a .dmp file, then chance are you have dump switch off. Follow my instructions above. You'll have to wait until next time it BSODs.

Do you get the same problems in safe mode were there any driver updates that installed when you switched the machine back on from the 6 week absence?

You can check this by typing "programs" in windows 7 search then select "Programs and features". Click on the "installed on" column heading to sort by install date in descending order. Check anything has been updating during that period.

From the same screen click on the "View Installed Updates" (top right), look for ny updates that were installed since it last worked ok.
