My PC went totally dead, no power on green light on the mobo. I checked for power in & it's o.k

It's a 650 Corsair PSU only 18 months old but I'm not sure how to test it for failure before I go to the trouble of returning it.
Is there any way to test a PSU? does it sound like it may be where the fault is?
I tried to connect onother PSU, a 450 Tagan just to see if it will power up the but it won't connect to the mobo as it has different fittings to my P5K-E & likewise my Corsair won't fit my older mobo. Any ideas what to do next

Have you got any molex powered fans? I'd take the 650 PSU out, and try connecting a fan into each molex to see if it behaves the same on all of them.

Does the fan in the PSU spin up? It sounds to me like the PSU has blown it's fuse, possibly caused by a power surge? Do you have a surge protector on there?

Remove the main 24 PIN ATX connector and link pins 13 & 14, this should start the PSU, I would remove all connections and just have a fan connected to a molex.

What connections does your Tagen not have, you should be able to get away with a 20 pin ATX and only 4 pin for cpu power.

Sorry for delay getting back to forum, having to use my daughters old PC atm,

Only problem with connecting Tagen 20 pin into 24 pin socket is which end do I fit it as I might cause damage if wrong.
The Tagen has two four pin connectors whereas the mobo has a six or 8 pin socket as far as I remember.

To check the internal glass fuse means opening up the PSU which invalidates the warranty as some screws are labeled over.

when I get back home I'll try linking pins 13 & 14 to see if the PSU starts up it's fan, if not then I guess I'll have more idea that it's definitely the PSU failed .

Checked on Corsair site & testing PSU involves shorting green wire with any black wire to start fan spinning. No luck there but waiting for reply from OcuK re RMA as it looks like it has to be sent overseas & not back to retailer.

Well I finally gave up & opened the PSU, 6mm screws have some kind of locktight sealant & almost impossible to get out, makes me wonder if RMA results in quick test & bin.

There is a warning inside re replacing fuse with correct type (10 amp) but I can't actually see it & the interior is made very inaccessible with the casing off 3 sides only, rest requires bending away which is risky as some components are fixed on with short wires. Anyone opened a Corsair PSU?

The only upside to this is I treated myself to a Toshiba laptop to get back online :D

Long shot: Have you been clearing the CMOS and left the jumper on/in the wrong position ?
