pc hanging on desktop on start up

has been a problem since a started up my computer this morning

have run spyware and adware scans with spybot and ad-aware

have run virus scan with norton internet security

both found nothing

tried bootvis

run disk checks using the built in Windows XP utilities etc

pc runs fine is safe mode, doesn't hang on the desktop at all, but can't really do much, I've tried everything I know save from re-installing windows

But that would be a last resort as I will lose one of my activations with my anti virus software!

Spec can be seen in my sig below, Windows XP is the OS

If its fine in safe mode I would start uninstalling hardware or replacing drivers and see if that helps.

yeah I'll have to give it try today, i'll try re-installing the nforce drivers because that seems to fix anything

repairing windows worked for a while, it doesn't hang it runs dead slow, still problems with new install...run out of ideas
