Its an old Acer Aspire E700. Recently Its started to hang on start up, it gets to the desktop but then that's it, it can take forever to get a response from it. If I then shut it down it'll take an age to do that.
On the odd occasion it will start up OK.

I've just changed the battery on the mobo as I read somewhere that could be at fault but since I've done that the CPU fan doesn't stay on, it comes on when you first turn it on then it goes off.

Anyone any ideas?

try running from an elevated cmd prompt: sfc /scannow or depending on how much free space on HDD you could run: scndsk /r for bad sectors repair

check bios settings for fan

Hi
so did you try and run sfc /scannow This will check the system files and let you know if there is a problem.........and more so since you have fitted an ssd, which you didn't mention on first post?

Run msconfig and see what's running at startup, could be some third party rubbish has found it's way on there unintentionally.
