My laptop has recently started hanging for several seconds when doing 'moderately' demanding activities. The system freezes and the current window becomes unresponsive. Most of the time the mouse won't move either. The PC then recovers and gives a low beeping sound through the speakers.

It only seems to do this when Steam is running.

Here's the kicker- I did a reformat and it still does this.

The PC came from a competitor but here are the specs:

Samsung 830 256GB.
Intel i7 3740 2.7-3.4GHz.
8GB Samsung 1600MHz of some sort
Nvidia GT650M 2GB

The cores' temperatures are about 45-50 whilst TZ00 and 01 are about 30c. My Samsung 830 is reported as having good health.

I'm thinking ram or gpu.

Run a mem test and see what comes up.

Download gpu-z and check gpu temps, including vrms. Monitor temps while playing (gpu-z can log to a note pad all details). Check CPU and ram usage, maybe something is hogging up a bunch of ram or something.

Other than that just make sure all drivers are up to date.

Best of luck.

Ow I also forgot to mention try just running off of your integrated gpu and see what happens. Don't know if it's possible on a laptop, I'm sure it is.
