I have had an issue for as long as I can remember with my PC, but it only happens once or maybe twice a month so I've never spent too much time looking into it.
My normal boot up process is for the RAID screen to appear (or not before I was running RAID), then the POST display shows, then the Windows 7 animation. At the end of the Windows animation, the lights/screen on the G15 switch off, the lights on the mouse go off, the Xonar soundcard makes a click (like it does when you switch from speakers to front panel headphones or back), then the keyboard and mouse re-activate and the screen switches to the Windows log on screen and the tune plays.
Once or twice a month, the process stops after the keyboard/mouse switch off and the Xonar clicks. The screen just hangs on the end of the Windows logo and it never goes any further. I have to hit the reset/power down switch. When rebooted, Windows offers start-up repair (which doesn't come up with anything the twice I ran it) or booting normally. Booting normally always works.
I don't remember it happening when the PC isn't cold-started, and it is almost always preceeded by the PC doing the double boot thing (where it lights up and spins it's fans for a few seconds, then cuts out, then starts properly - I've seen people say this normal on 1155 and is something to do with the RAM timings sorting themselves out). Sometimes though, the PC will do the double boot but then boot up completely normally without the issue above.
It's happened for as long as I can remember, so it's probably not the GPU, soundcard, SSD, current Windows install as I've changed all these in that time. I've also changed lots of settings in my overclock and it's been 100% stable for the last year so I'm hoping it's not that. I know I should try running at stock to rule that out as the cause, but it only happens so infrequently that I would need to run at stock for a good 2-3 months to rule it out - and I'd rather put up with the issue!
Has anyone run across this before, or know anything I might be able to do to track down the issue?
My setup is (and previous components if run while issue has occured):
2600K at 4.7GHz (voltage offset +0.02)
P8P67 Pro (always keep BIOS up to date in case it fixes the issue)
4 x 4GB RipjawsX at 1600MHz (1.5V) - previously 2x4GB RipjawsX
7970 @ 1125/1575 (stock voltage) - previously 2x5870s @ stock
128GB Crucial M4 for OS - previously run 128GB C300
Xonar D1 - previously Xonar DG
XFX 750W Core PSU
PNY GTX460 for Physx and 2 x 120GB SSD in RAID0 (recent additions - issue was happening before these were added)
Silverstone RV03 case
G15 keyboard and G500 mouse (previously MS Sidewinder X5 mouse)
500GB WD drive + 1TB Hitachi drive
Windows 7 Home Premium
