PC has been broken for 2 months now.

So the only thing that hasn't been replaced is the case? I would look for anything in the case that could be shorting the mobo.

could you maybe post a pic of the pcie cable you're using and which end is going where?

What was the loose wire you reconnected?

I wouldn't try any new hardware until you find the problem.

on the psu it will say PCIE 6+2 it should be plugged in there to the gpu.
I dont know what will happen if you plug it in somewhere else maybe someone else does?

Buy some cheap low end spares to test.

No way in hell would I fit a brand new graphics card into a system that has already gone 'pop'

for that GPU you need 2 x 6+2 power connections, it only takes 6 pin from each so doesn't need the extra 2 connections per power cable.

is there any lights on the motherboard etc to show its getting power? also have you done the PSU test with the paperclip to make sure that's spinning up and staying on ok?
