Hey, I'm hoping this is an elaborate april fools! but my pc has just died on me.
No idea whats happened I was playing F.E.A.R. 2 and the next thing I know its crashed, So I thought to myself fair enough, restart.

Now nothing, it powers up and is running as I type, however no video is being outputted, tried both cards and clearing the CMOS. I'm at a loss... Both were fine earlier no unusual temps etc.

any ideas guys? :(

Might sound stupid but best to rule out the stupid ideas first. Have you tested your monitor on something other than pc?

Does seem weird both cards don't work......

im running two monitors.. one would still work should another have died
plus im not hearing the windows login (i dont have a post speaker)
Ill try the ram just now,
then psu
cheers guys anymore suggestions?

EDIT: memory is fine

so I've reseated the memory, tried one stick at a time - no luck
Checked all the psu connectors and there are secure.
Im gonna take both cards out and try an older one, see if I have any luck with that

EDIT: Ive tried an older card, no luck with that either.
Its looking more and more likely its the processor thats died :(

How about you rip out your Raptor and run a diagnostic on it on someone else's computer? Just an idea. then its something else you can rule out. :(

P.S. sorry to hear about that.

hmm, could do that...
As you can imagine, I'm open to suggestions as I obv want to get this fixed!
don't even have a spare processor kicking about to try that. :(

edit: just been thinking surely i would be able to get into bios if the HDD wasn't working?
I get nothing when I turn it on :(

Looking more and more likely could be your motherboard or cpu, but just because its powering up don't rule out your psu. Maybe try an old one, or borrow one from a friend.

I have exactly the same problem. Was just browsing the net and it crashed . Wouldn't restart. HD activity light doesn't come on at all, although im sure you can go into BIOS with out the HD, my mobo light is on does that mean it's ok?

sounds similar, so your getting absolutely nothing either?
I actualy never checked the HDD light, I'm at work just now and will check later.
Mobo light is on, yep
How do people never fry cpu's these days? O/C and the higher the chance! :o

I know its been done but some people take out thier cmos battery and leave it out for a long period of time.

Does the mobo look dead in anyway? like burnt or poped caps etc?

hey guys sorry for the delay, been busy working and testing this.
Now; appears to be the motherboard which has gone.

I've changed the order of the ram = no success
Tried a different graphics card = no success
Tried different processor = no success
Used a different PSU = no success

so short of a different hard disk that to me is everything apart from the motherboard so surely that is culprit?

Before I begin the RMA process is there anything that you guys can think of that might have killed the motherboard? Just for future reference? cheers :)

Sounds PSU related, check all the cables for burns or scorches etc, rule that out for sure. A failing PSU doesnt mean no power at all.

you cant get into bios, not hitting post:

and uve ruled out cpu, ram and psu.

only thing left is motherboard, try a new cmos battery if possible, if that doesnt work get RMAing

Hi
Just a thought i had this same problem, i found it to be one of the memory sticks i took out 1 stick at a time then booted also tried diffrent channels with each stick, i to had no input to the screen, no hdd activity, when i found the faulty ram and removed it, it all came back to life :)
hope you get it sorted :)
all the best
