Seems to be a spate of PC issues with me at the moment.

I'm hoping this one is a simple fix :(

Basically, i'd just left my PC on upstairs, went downstairs for a bit for some lunch.

Came back up to find that the screen was black, the PC power light was on though, and the monitor is functioning correctly.
I have a mouse that lights up when it's on, and that had no light. Indicator of some kind of fault with the motherboard or something?

I turned everything off at the mains after that, disconnect the power cable for a bit, and left it to for a while.

Connected it all back up, attempted to power it up and the same thing happened. One beep as normal, but then no activity on the monitor, no power light on the mouse and no further activity by the looks of things on the PC.

What does this indicate please?

Simple fix or do i need a few new components?

My system is...

Windows 7 64-bit
Q9550 quad core - not overclocked.
ASUS P5E
Sapphire Vapor 5770
4GB Ram (can't remember specifics)
500 Watt Antec Neo PSU
WD 180GB HD (this is pretty old, about 6 years i think, has my Windows install on it.)
WD 750GB HD (this is holding my music etc)

All got the latest drivers etc, besides the BIOS, which after a few upgrades i left it well alone.

I'm pretty broke at the moment, so I hope it's something simple :(

Ok, how do i do that on a P5E? (non-deluxe)

Also, why would it do it in the first place?

I just tried it again with 2gb of ram instead, same problem.

The monitor power light flashes on and off after it attempts to view in analog then digital. Which is standby right?

I'll give the CMOS a go, shame ASUS site really sucks for getting any info quickly :(
 
There is usually a reset jumper on the board should be in the manual. Failing that take battery out for 20 minutes.

You just pop the reset cmos jumper over to the other 2 pins make sure you take the power cable out before doing this.

Seems mine involved taking the battery out, switching a switch on for 10 secs, switching it back and then putting the battery back in.

Sadly, it still hasnt fixed the problem :(

The PC powers up, motherboard beeps once implying it's all hunky dory, but then no information is displayed, no bios stuff, nothing. :(

Also tried with a different gfx card, 8800gt, with no luck, and a different monitor too. Also no luck.

Seems to me that it's either HD, MB or PSU?

Though if the MB is doing one beep, that should imply it's fine?

sounds like the pci-e slot is dead.

Am I right in saying you get no picture at all? But your monitor actually works? If you take out the monitor cable does your monitor say something like no-input?
 
well if theres absolutely nothing on the screen, that rules hard drives out, as the system will at least be able to POST without hard drives...

i guess trying the graphics in the other pcie slot is the next thing to try.

Have you had a good hard look at the motherboard for any scorch marks (particularly around the power connectors), or blown capacitors?

Yes, the monitor works, i tried a different PCI-E slot, which yielded no results either.

It says no input when i take it out, correct.

Think at this rate, i'm going to strip it for parts and start over. My poor savings!
 
Could be your Ram has gone hence no display. You GPU could have gone or the psu is playing up.

Have you tried a different 6 pin or whatever it is to the GPU? That might have blown
 
They sure are.

And just to close the subject as such, i acquired a mate's old motherboard to give it a whirl, handily was a P5E as well! It turns out my motherboard had popped it's clogs as my mates one worked fine with all of my components... ! :D

Thanks ASUS for ruining my Saturday :(
