so my pc has just died..

it just shut down on its own and then re-started, did it a few times then went to windows repair.

i just left it and it re-started time after time until i got no display and no way to bios.

i now just get "00" on the post code.

i have took it all apart and tried a bare set-up, swapped memory around and tried a new psu.

i have chucked the towel in now, its not may main pc but its used daily.

msi z270 gaming 6
i5 6600k
16gb ddr4.

its a 150 mile round trip to overclockers and i was there 2 weeks ago and i look like being in the store tomo morning.

what should i go for that will be equal at least to the 6600k, memory is only 2400 though.

if i drop the board and chip in will they test it (for a fee of course) , chip was from them, board was not, i would like to at least make use at a later date of any parts that are ok.

thank you.

Have you tried taking the motherboard out of the case and examining and testing it?

yes i have Quartz, it looks ok to be honest. i have tested and swapped all parts but not the motherboard or cpu, i really do suspect the motherboard so will rma it first.

Your stuff should still be under warranty.

it is but i cannot wait for an rma, i will rma it but i want this pc back up and in use.

will it be ok with 2400 ddr4 though. all posts i have read seem to say faster ram is needed

Yes it will work fine with 2400mhz ram, you get slightly better performance out of faster ram, and although people grab 3200mhz and above, RyZen only really officially supports upto 2666mhz.

fetched a ryzen 5 2600, 16gb ddr4 a power supply and an asus x470 motherboard.

got it all installed and working so proceeded to play with the broken stuff....

yup, it works, the water cooler backplate had slowly worked its way onto some pins on the back of the motherboard...

i now have a spare 6600k, msi gaming 6 and 16gb ddr4.....and water cooler..

thanks for all the replys.
