I'm going to be building a media PC sometime soon but for now i'm tempted to hookup my current rig to my bedroom HDTV and then take it back when i need internet access. But i'm unsure where i should start.

It's currently hooked up to a monitor running 1680x1050. Now should i just disconnect it and take it into my bedroom, boot up and set a new custom res of 1360x768. Or will it give a no signal error due to it being setup as 1680x1050?

Or do i set a custom res now while it's hooked up to my monitor, then connect it to my HDTV?

As you can tell i'm not sure which way to go about this. :p

When I tried something similar I got no picture on the TV, but an 'Out of Range' error box. I had to boot into safe mode to get it back.

In retrospect, I'd configure it for 1024x768, then swap to the TV and configure it there. BTW, don't you mean 1366x768 or 1368x768?

I've just been reading through some searches i did and came across a lot of people saying that Nvidia drivers do 1368 or 1360.

Thanks for the tip so far.

edit: I just noticed my typo in the first post meant to say 1360 not 1630.

Depends what your TV is really. If you've got it on an input with 1:1 pixel mapping (which for gaming and browsing is essential IMO, you'll be fine just plugging it in.

i recommend 1080i for desktop use, everything looks clearer and you can fit more screen, i tried it on my 20" monitor and altho interlaced, just made text look like cleartype makes it look and gave me more desktop space
