My rig (see sig) often freezes up for no reason, then will not post (it gets to the bit just before the windows screen is supposed to appear. usually this problem is solved by leaving pc off for 30min then it is ok. If pc is left on for 4 or more hours then 90% of the time it has crashed when I come back to it. The crashes are always freeze-ups, never bsod's.

It has always done it and but I have had enough.

Orthos shows a ran failure when stress tested. The ram is running at slack timings at 2T @ 2.1v which imo is pants. However i thought bsods where the tell tale for fubared ram??? maybe bump up ram voltage to 2.3v??
EDIT: just tried with 2.3v and bsod on startup:(

The ram is this stuff:

to me if its happening allways after beeing on for a long while im wondering if its heat related especiallly as you say atfer 30mins wait you can start again almost as hough its cooling down ? you any idea of temps of cpu ?

memtest had lots of errors during test number 7 of memtest86+. the timings where set to 'auto' in the bios, as me setting to the default 4-4-4-12 speed results in a reset/crash before I can even log in. The auto setting set the ram to 5-5-5-18 2T, which to me is rather crappy.

try 1 stick at time see how your pc gets on. maybe you have a dodgy stickl of ram

will try this tomorrow. I rarely get BSODs, I usually just get complete lockups.....but can ram cause this?? iIalways thought dead ram =bsod with memory dump messages. Also when vista restarts I get no 'your pc recovered from a serious error' or anything at all.

EDIT: after a crash during a game, a quick turn off and on and into bios settigns shows the following temps:
CPU 55
ICH 65
(G)MCH 76
System 55

All the above temps are in celcius and the case has a 12cm fan at the back on low
