This, I've been thinking about/working on bits with for... well probably most of a year.

Never really got around to posting much a log for it but some final snaps on the build and thoughts, as I think that still meets house rules :)

The idea here was something that would run well (cool/cold) and be generally as low profile as possible otherwise.

The drawer itself went through a few iterations before I eventually settled for a back and front with open sides and just suspending the fans in the right location.

I'd previous considered making the back shorter and having the fans fixed to the outer cabinet, ended up being rather easier all round like this.

The back panel clearly has space for quite a bit of radiator, depending how much space there is in the drawer to move other parts around. It would be possible to raise the motherboard on a "shelf" with PSU and drives below and fit up to a pair of 480mm radiators on the back.

The 2 200mm fans on the side provide bucketloads of airflow, they actually _almost_ feel like they're cooling the room even with the machine at full load. The holes in the side (and the 4 for the radiators, no shot of the back) for the fans were cut with a home-made jigsaw rig (can happily share it - would work for anything down to about... 100mm in any material you have a jigsaw blade for.

There will be a second drawer for the server machine, directly above it. I'll try and remember to get some shots while I'm building so there's a bit more to show/tell :)

Not much else really to explain here, the pictures will speak well enough for the rest of it.

Comments/idea/questions very welcome :)

i like the idea. makes it super easy to work on/upgrade. similar to a rack mount where you can slide it out.

p.s. i like the antec case on top aswell. looks smart as a htpc case

Well, the Antec might well appear on the MM fairly shortly as that was my old server housing :D
Tis rather pleasant to have it out easily. Tis a bit low tho, I usually end up slinging a case in my lap to work on.

haha legend, i would keep a fire guard close by tho!!

Eh, everything is earthed. There's no cheap, heavily loaded wiring anywhere in there so... I think it'll be fine :)
Temps wise nothing goes over 43c at load even with a decent overclock.

This is basically built ready to throw a 1700X or 1400X in (depends on funds, the 1400X is half the cores, threads and cache but only 100mhz slower than the 1800X, clocks wise might do better single thread as less overall cores in the package to hold it back with temps/silicon lottery) as it should totally love how cool it runs. I sit to the left of it and generally feel "cold" from the amount of air those 200mm fans shift. Certainly more-so than my previous setup in a fractal R4 where it was a small heater :D
