Hi.

I'm currently on my 6th build that I finished in July 2015. Components are:

i7 4790K (stock)
EVGA GTX970 FTW
Gigabyte Z97P-D3
Corsair Vengence DDR3 PC1600 (2 x 4Gb)

In a nut shell, the PC has worked like a dream since I got it. A couple of weeks ago, as I turned it on, it immediately turned off, then remained dead. No lights, no fans, nothing.
I assumed it was the PSU, an old..ish OCZ 650W that I took out of my old build.
I've since replaced it with an EVGA 750W Gold supply, but it still wont work.

When it's turned on there is a clear although faint burning smell. I havn't managed to figure out where it's comming from.

Any ideas where to start? Or at least how to test what components may have failed without having any spares to replace.

Thank you.

VRM's may be fried on the motherboard.

I would test with another motherboard, I would get a cheap motherboard, or better still borrow a compatible board and test the CPU in it.

Burning is likely to be the highest power components - VRM, followed by graphics card.

check for scorch-marks on both side of the motherboard.
