Hi all,
This is spec for wifes pc
Asus p5e
Q6600
Nvidia 260 gtx
4gb ocz gold
1.5tb samsung hd
windows 7 home editon

Okay before the issues started the only differences in the above machine were a 500gb samsung windows vista.
The only issue in almost 2 years of use was the onboard sound failing now and then sound would just die and require a reboot.

Current issues, freezing in games Dragon age, l4d2, mass effect 2 sometimes it recovers sometimes it doesn't. also games load time slows down etc or safe time goes wierd.
If it doesn't and you reset the pc then the bios loads fine but it can't find the samsung drive until you turn the pc off completely for 5-10 mins,

Now what i've tested
I've done a clean sweep of drivers and reinstalled fresh (no difference) by cleansweep I mean using the programs that find all old dll's etc.
I've ran memtest 24 hours no issues
I've ran prime95 24 hours no issues.

Temperatures in the case (its well ventelated) never go past 50 for mb and cpu even on prime or 70 on graphics card.
All fans working have once again tested with fan monitoring software.

only two ideas I'm left with is the following:
A) Some mosfet or cap on the motherboard is dying or being stressed during gameplay its overheating and thus a turn of for 5 mins means it works okay again.

B)This all started when the 1.5gb drive went in is there some setting that I have having issue with with the drive when games are accessing it, going to try a different sata slot etc.

Do people think i'm trying the right things ?

id try deleting old stuff, further along data is stored on a HDD the slower it takes to read/write.

if you go:

start --> control panel --> classic view --> administrative tools --> event viewer. This opens a window , down the left hand side look for windows events. From here look for any "!" or "X" signs on the list. This would work getting the games to crash then checking. If you find any double click it and it will give a windows error code which you can then googlle to find the issue.

its a 1.5tb drive with only 200gb on there (she keeps it defragged etc)

Fixed problem btw seems sata channel 1 were not being nice switched to sata 5 and no crashes etc :)
