I recently got my new PC, I got it on saturday so me, my dad and my friend built it.

I got it set up in my room and for the first night it was fine, didn't have any issues and i was installing games as usual and managed to play WoW and source just to give it a try on ultra graphics and it was completely fine. The next day I was playing tf2 with my mate and it closed tf2 and skype randomly so i thought "thats weird.." so i restarted it and rung my mate back up and before i could do anything it shut skype and the whole pc down..it wasnt an actual shut down though..it didnt just go bam and turn off, it said it was trying to turn off but things were preventing it, steam etc.

So it restarted itself..i didnt even turn it back on and it would turn on for 3-4 seconds and then turn off again..this repeated 5-6 times and then i pressed the button and it turned on and i could use it again.

We can definitely ruleout overheating because that definitely isnt the issue.

I bought :-

Radeon 6950 2048MB PCI-Express
Intel Core [email protected] sandybridge
Asus P8z68-V Intel Z68 DDR3 Motherboard
Lepa B-Series 750W '80 plus bronze' modular power supply
Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

and the tower is Zalman z9 plus

if anybody has any ideas please let me know because this is strange as hell, my mate came over yesterday and pushed the wires in a bit more and then we left source and wow running for an hour and it didnt turn off then randomly decided to...also i woke up this morning and the pc was already on.

so yeah if you have any ideas/suggestions please let me know, thanks a lot

Just a random crash with Windows maybe? If it's working now then the parts are fine.. Unless it was a really short power cut (there's a correct term but I forget it).

Temperamental power switch in the case, perhaps? The contacts might be touching sometimes, even when you're not pushing the button.

Worth looking into, even if just to rule the idea out!

What have you done to rule out the overheating?

My first build did this and it was because the fan on the graphics card wasn't spinning and overheated.

But that wouldn't explain it coming on by its self?
