Hi everyone,

This is my first post here so I am not 100% sure if this is the correct place to post this. If not, I apologise.

I've had my PC for around 5-6 months now and unfortunately it has started having issues.

Here is a list of the issues:

  1. One motherboard sensor is constantly showing as 128 degrees
  2. On start up 6/10 times the PC will not load correctly so my monitors, keyboard, mouse etc are not powered. Meaning I have to restart the PC using the restart button on the case.
  3. On start up 7/10 times my PC will show a "Power Surge On Hub Port" error message and all my USB devices will restart (mouse, keyboard, webcam and speakers)
  4. The CPU usage regularly exceeds 80%-90% when playing even the most basic games or even just watching streams on Twitch.tv
  5. The PC will randomly crash and require restarting or completely shutting down. (No error messages are shown, it just freezes and/or shuts down)

It has been happening more and more frequently lately so I am getting worried that some part of the hardware is failing... Which would be bad as all the parts are high-end and expensive.

Here are my specs:
  1. CASE: Corsair Carbide 540
  2. PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 1300W - Gold Rated
  3. COOLING: Custom built water loop
  4. CPU: i7-4770K o/c'd to 4.6GHz
  5. MOBO: Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5 Intel Z87
  6. RAM: Avexir Venom Series 2133MHz (16GB)
  7. GPU: 2x EVGA 780Ti Superclock with EK Water Blocks
  8. SSD: Samsung 1TB SSD 840 EVO
  9. HDD: 2TB Seagate SSHD

Note: I originally thought that the overclocking may have been the issue so I removed it and set everything back to the base settings/config, but the problems still occurs.

Does anyone have any advice or am I best paying to get a PC specialist to give it a complete check over? (I fear this may be expensive)

Thanks you in advance!

Hi and welcome

Is your loop fully working? Is the pump working properly? Does it exhibit the same behaviour in safe mode? All BIOS settings reverted to default?

Hello and welcome,

I would first suggest doing a BIOS reset or clear cmos options to se if this helps.

if you are getting "Power Surge On Hub Port" it normally indicates a USB issue either with the ports or a problem with whatever is connected to that USB port.

what OS are you running?

The cooling loop appears to be working as the temps are all stable (apart from the one motherboard sensor that is constantly at 128 degrees).

I have tried reverting all BIOS to default and I also tried running in safe mode the first time that it "blue screened" but it still crashed after around 20-30 minutes of use.

I am running Windows 8.1.

I tried clearing all settings/options back to default but it still had the issues.

I also tried using all different USB devices in case it was a device that was faulty, but the same issue with the "Power Surge" still happened.

I fear that the motherboard may be faulty but I am kind of hoping that it is something simpler as I do not want to have to drain the cooling system and remove everything unless I 100% have to.
