PC just powering off intermittantly

Recently upgraded my desktop PC and it now has the following spec:

  • Ryzen 5800X3d - upgraded from 3700x (now in daughters PC)
  • 32GB Corsair dominator platinum 3200 DDR4 memory (old 16GB in daughters PC)
  • SKHynix 1TB pcie4 & SKHynix 2TB pcie3 nvme drives
  • 4TB Seagate mech drive
  • Corsair RM1000x psu (old 850w EVGA unit in daughters PC)
  • Gigabyte Aorus elite v1 mobo (purchased nov 2019 so out of warranty)
  • Founders nvidia 3070ti
  • noctua u12a cpu cooler
  • bequiet tower case
Decided not to go 7 series AMD just yet and upgrade and it’s been working fine since beginning of October but this week it has an intermittent power loss issue, screen goes blank and fans run on full, sometimes all the RGB turns off and sometimes the RGB on the memory stays on.

All temps are well within tolerance using hwmon and the PC can power off when in the BIOS screen at idle so not a load issue. I’ve updated the mobo bios to F38g (latest) and swapped over the memory to my daughters PC and hers was ok and my PC powered down with her memory in it.

The last thing I fitted was the NVME drives so today i’m going to clone my pcie4 drive onto the old corsair nvme3 drive and test the PC with just that in it.

I’ve also got another Corsair rm1000x power supply coming today to try that and as insurance i’ve got an MSI B550 tomahawk mobo (brand new) coming next Tuesday just incase it’s the motherboard.

So I think i’ve got things covered, just a process of elimination now just wondering if there is something else I can check?

Also, do you think the MSI mobo is a good choice? I didn’t want the expense of upgrading yet and the B550 seems to tick all the boxes.
 
Cloned 1TB nvme gen4 OS drive onto the old 480gb gen3 and so far stable.

Wondering if the extra bandwidth is putting too much stress on the system. It's the last thing I upgraded.

PC’s been switched on all day and not powered itself off yet. Looking to be like the SKHYNIX platinum 1TB nvme gen4 thats causing it. Maybe not even faulty, just probably never had an issue as I was using a gen3 nvme in main slot until a few weeks ago.
 
By powering off do you mean it shuts down and you have to manually turn it on again or do you mean it randomly turns off and then turns itself on again?
Can you try another PSU? The former is usually a PSU problem, the latter is often a motherboard problem in my experience.

PC was not powering off totally, screen goes black and fans then run on full. Have to press power button to turn off and on again. Seems to be happening after a few hours but I don’t think it is heat related, but saying that the gen4 ssd’s do run hot and it seems to be stable now ive switched back to a gen3.

I do have the new rm1000x power supply arrive today so I could swap it out just incase.
 
Swapped out the psu just incase but been running with no issue on a gen3 nvme in main slot so i've swapped out the old corsair mp510 for an skhynix gold series gen3 which is the fastest gen3 available and running at 30deg.

Hope this may help other people with a similar issue with pc powering itself down, I suspect my mobo is the issue still just running a gen4 nvme as it's using more lanes etc.
 
@cyber69 it may be the new CPU at fault too.
Don't forget that the CPU provides the lanes for the SSD.

Only way to find out is to see if the pcie4 SSD crashes the computer when running with the 3700x.

Could try that but seems to be running ok on the gen3 drive which is just the OS drive anyway. As long as it lasts for 12 months then I will make the jump to 7800x3d or whatever is around.
 
I got this on windows 10 years ago. Something with a windows update resolved it and I never got the issue again. I have no idea what it was exactly but it’s resolved now.

I’m on 11 now and no issues since.

Urgh, problem came back today meaning PSU and NVME drive were ok. The PC rebooted and lost its bios settings so I replaced the cmos battery and it seems again. Measured the voltage on the old battery and its reading over 3volts so ive ordered a new mobo just incase.

Opted for an MSI B550 Tomahawk to replace the Gigabyte X570 if it decides to go wrong again. Seems to tick all the boxes for my nvme storage and pcie graphics.
