Ok, well, this system has been in use for a good few years and it has been 100% Rock solid and never given me any issues.

The last thing I added to it was the GFX, then before that the CPU was from the 8350 and before that, the RAM.

Now what happens, is simply that it goes all tickety boo and then it stops, no warning, nothing, it just freezes.

I have plenty of other hardware and so I have tried the GFX, the RAM and the CPU in other Motherboards and they all seem to run just fine, as does this board with any other bits instead of these, but it seem to be the mixture of exactly these bits that make it fail.

Also, there is nothign that I can do or not do, that sets it off, however mostl of the time it is when playing games, but it has also frozen when Im just sat on it doing nothing but browsing?

It also works perfectly great for hours or days and so there is never any specific way that I can test it.

Any ideas? - Apart from the obvious?

Have you checked event viewer to see if there is any windows logs that may give you a bit more info on what is crashing?

Do you have any overclocks on the cpu\gpu? also have you check temps at all?

Maybe check the cpu cooler for dust build up, also what OS are you using?

did you have the issue before adding the gpu? if no what was you using beofre? Could always try using DDU and remove the GPU drivers and re install again from the AMD site.

A bit drastic but I've found a clean windows install clears loads of bugs and glitches. Good to spring clean your SSD too, get all drives up to date with no conflicts.

Sounds like driver or software fault to me and not hardware - but could be a bad hard drive getting stuck on an unreadable sector! (could try HardDisck Sentinel to check the drives)

But as subbytna says - a fresh install would sort this out for sure - but first you could try deinstalling software - anything like backup software, the stuff that like to periodically check for stuff - this can become corrupt and cause the freezing. Also reinstall drivers and reinstall as one of those may have become corrupt.

Unfortunately it's a trial and error process to try and find the actual fault - and possibly easier to just do a fresh install of the OS.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Ok, to reply...

When it hangs, it gives absolutely no clues whatsoever, so no, no windows logs for any clues at all.
And no, no clocking at all of any kind, temps are well below anything remotely naughty... ( Read on however )
CPU Cooler for dust ( I just said readon, so now I'll double down on that ) and the O/S is Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Clean Windows install. Yes it is, made no difference. Or rather it did for a while but then it came back, so...

I may have hit on the culprit... I cannot see why, but at the moment, it certainly seems to be the most likely cause.

The Cooler that I am using is a Corsair H100i

Now, this uses software to control it, and I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled the version I downloaded a while back and Inoticed that the version it WAS running was the latest, and the one I have in there now, is older. It did ask to update, but I have not.

So, today, what I have done, is hammered the living crud out of the poor PC.

I have the 16GB RAMDisk as I always use, and thats filled up with junk just to piddle about, I have set 4 cores to convert a truckload of video files one core for each program and I have 4 programs converting files to 4 different formats, and I am defragging all my drives, and I have been playing games non stop for hours on end, and so far it has NOT hung.

This is not to say it wont, but it is certainly running right, when I am sure that by now, it would have hung surely?

I am going to kep my eyes on it though and if it uploads that Corsair software, and then it crashes, then it MUST be that surely?

I wonder if anyone else can shed any light on that, or is this simply pure chance for now?

Ok, well its just hung so maybe its not the corsair thingy then?

Im going to go and plop Windows 7 onto it for a bit... Just cos I despise teh stupid Apps junk that MS are so desperate to force onto people, so Ill just do that for a bit and see how things go!
