Hi Guys

My mates pc keeps crashing. it will run fine for a while and then will restart and get blue screen of death or please insert system disk. At first i thought the hard drive was knackered so i bought a new one and fitted that which seemed fine for about a week. Now back to the same problem again.
any ideas? it used to be my pc and was always fine for me. the only thing he is doing differant is using a wireless keyboard and mouse and a bigger monitor.
the psu in there is only a cheap 500w that i bought years ago.
maybe the monitor is hogging too much power out the graphics card? the power saving options on it seem a bit weird. and i hate his wireless setup.

please help

does it just reset at random, or when he does certian tasks that raises power consumption, such as gaming?

There are many things that could be causing the problem. Firstly I very much doubt its anything at all to do with the wireless KB/mouse and monitor. Perhaps a driver issue with the KB/mouse, but I seriously doubt it.

What are the temps like, are all the fans still spinning, and not full of dust?? HJave you run mem test to check the RAM? And if its just an el cheapo PSU its probably not outputting anywhere near what it says it is, the voltages might be a bit off and causing instability in other components.

yes it restarts at random. no matter what application you are running. the temps seem fine and all the fans are spinning and is deffo not clogged up with dust. im pretty certain it is not the ram.
seems im having the same problem as another guy in these forums.

It sounds like it could be a memory issue, run memtest and see what happens so we can rule it out before continuing

assuming you have a pc yourself with a PSU that is powerful enough to power that pc, why not try your PSU to rule out a psu problem.

yeh looks like im gonna have to try my psu in his. pain in the butt tho. takin mine apart just on his expense lol!
really annoyed me tho because i was so sure it was the harddrive. wasted £35 lol. and im an IT Assistant so of course he trusts me to know what im talking about.

god computers wind me up.
