Hi, Hope you can help.
I have just upgraded my PC with an Abit AN8 SLI motherboard with 2x512 sticks of Ram, a Radeon X800GTO 512MB Graphics card and an AMD 3200+ CPU. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2. The problem is that my internet connection keeps disconnecting at different intervals and somtimes I cant even connect. I am with Talktalk broadband with connection of 2MBps. Before I changed my hardware I had no problems. I have reinstalled my Modem driver but still the same.

Please help
Many thanks
Den

and do those other devices randomly lose power from the USB ports?

Are you running the latest bios and chipset drivers?

please make sure you have a microfilter on every connection to your phone line, otherwise it will disconnect due to interference.

that what was happening with me for some reason one of the filters stoped working right changed it and problem went away

Establishing whether it's the internet connection disconnecting (and if so, what part), or the USB modem losing power would be a good start.
What happens to the modem when you get disconnected?

tolien, My modem lights are always on even when I get disconnected. If its the internet disconnecting I'm not sure what part.

Tolearn/GAMEfreak, I never used a filter on my old system, so figured don't neeed one for my new system.

Mekrel, My other USB devices that are connected have their own power. I have the BIOS and Chipset default that came with my MBoard have not updated them.

Sleepless, I have just looked at device manager and yes their seems to be a problem. Under "other devices" i have a exclamation mark next to"other PCI bridge device" and "USB device". Could this be the problem? If so how do I correct it?

Thanks guys! I appreciate your help.

Doesn't sound like the modem losing power or you losing synch - so how exactly do you know it's "disconnected"?

Unless you've got a filtered master socket (or no phones), you need filters.

Well when I leave my connection up and running, say to download somthing after say 20mins, my internet connection has disconnected, I then try to reconnect but it won't allow me to. But I think the problem is solved. I noticed a conflict in my device manager, I uninstalled the device (another 2 USB ports, not needed...yet). I left my PC connected to the internet all night and it was still connected this morning! So thanks all for your help, I hope its solved.

Thanks!

PC Internet connection keeps disconnecteing

Hi,
I thought the problem had been solved, but it hasn't. it still disconnects when it wants to, and I have trouble re-connecting and have to reboot my PC, sometimes this works.

This is doning my head in!!

As tolien mentioned you need filters connected to every other device on your phone line , 56k modems, faxmachines, phones, sky boxes etc.

Unless you have a filtered master socket ie it filters the line except a single port for your internet which is totaly unfiltered.

This link explains the different types of filter http://www.dslfilter.co.uk/styles.asp

Filter

Mon, I just checked the link out. It turns out that I do have a filter fitted. I have a Central Filter, I didn't realise this was a filter. My connection has been up and running continuously for three days, so it seems ok now. Maybe TalkTalk were having a problem.

Thanks
