My computer keeps hanging on the screen before the windows loading logo, and i have no idea why.

Ive tried everything from checking memory, graphics, changing the hdd, checking all the cables, resetting the bios to default (jumper + battery), changing the sata port to another, even resitting the cpu.

but it wont go past and load up windows :( ive had this computer maybe 2-3 years now, never had any problems. the specs are:

motherboard: asus-a8ne (latest revision)
graphics: x1900 radeon
memory: 2gb mushkin ddr in dual channel (ive tried changing memory slots too)
cpu: amd x2 3800 running at stock, 2ghz

it's not overheating or anything, i've checked the temps.

anyone got any ideas?

thanks

This is pretty basic, but have you checked boot menu is set to boot from the HDD first? Once (a long time ago) my Windows wouldn't start because boot menu was trying to boot from an unbootable CD.

yeah, there isnt a cd in it, and hdd is bootable first.

Does it get past POST and if so have you tried booting in safe mode? What OS are you running?

Presuming its getting past POST, stick an XP cd in, go to recovery console and run a chkdsk /r

im guessing post means the memory check screen etc? if so, yeah it gets past htat but hangs on a screen that displays like "HDD 500GB SATA 2" etc the one right before it should go to the bootscreen of windows

im running windows 7, ive tried booting the disc and doing a startup recovery it says its fine
