My little Z87 mITX system keeps turning itself on and I've no idea why.

It's running windows 8 (not 8.1), but I already made sure that power off means power off (not sleep or hibernate)

under 'regular maintenance', I turned off the 'wake the computer to run this task' and I checked the BIOS and 'wake on LAN' is off.

Last time it happened there wasn't a single thing plugged in to it, inc USB or monitors.

Nothing is touching the start button and it's not super-sensitive or anything like that.

So with all that in mind...any ideas?!

It's connected via Wifi but I wouldn't have thought the wifi would wake it, right?

You could follow the wires for the on/off switch, and make sure they are connected securly to the motherboard headers.

I presume it used to be fine and recently started doing this?

Start by disconnecting the power switch from the motherboard and leave it overnight. If it doesn't happen again it's obviously the power switch assembly.

Had to.

I don't know if this would help or not but see if the BIOS has the wake on LAN enabled.

how often does it happen? if you cant do the above maybe turn this option off in the bios (if you have it) and see if it stops the issues.

failing that if you don't want to change any bios settings maybe just take out the network cable so no activity is coming from the network to the PC and see if this helps the issue

Check your windows update settings, mine used to be at 0300 and it always woke the PC up.

Dead annoying, but a super simple fix.

I think it was either the WiFi Go or WiFi Engine programs in Asus AI suite 3.

Have uninstalled those and it doesn't seem to be doing it now.

This thread also shows how many people just read the thread title, lol.

My old motherboard had an anti-condensation option within the bios that would fire it up at random times. Took me a while to find that one.
