Anyway heres the situation:

yesterday was playing counterstrike, everything was fine, until suddenly it all freezes up. i have to manually switch off the pc, when i restart it, before it gets to the windows boot screen it just restarts itself - and keeps doing that, trying to boot in safe mode does same thing

anyway i had to go out for the day, i come back in the evening, and switch on. no restart this time, up comes an error message: cant boot cos windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt

this keeps coming up every time i restart the pc. i put in the XP PRO CD, go to recovery console, try chkdsk /p and then chkdsk /r and it says found repaired 1 or more errors.....but same error keeps coming up

so i go for a re-install. my 200gb is my windows hd and it has 2 100GB partitions. i try to format the windows partition first before installing windows again - but it fails at formatting it. i successfully install windows on the other partition. so last nite everything is fine, install a few drivers here and there, i restart the pc a few times and no error messages and boots into windows fine

now i wake up and its back to the continous restarting :o

is there a setting in the bios so it doesnt restart before there is an error on boot? cos im sure yesterday in some boot menu i disable the auto restart thing, cant seem to get the option now, so then i could see what the error msg will be, if its the same thing

any other ideas?

thanks

EDIT//

Ok i managed to disable the auto restart thing using some 'advanced boot menu' now just get a BSOD saying a problem has been detected etc etc....

that might be why then. Put everything back to stock and see what happens. Constant restarts are usually caused by insufficient power to cpu or that the ram cannot handle its fsb/timings.
