hi all as above every night at 12 midnight when my pc is in sleep mode it wakes up on its own why is it doing this?

at first i thought i sorted it as nero 9 live would boot itself up at 12 midnight so i unistalled it and its still doing the same thing

all my power options are set correctly and nothing is set to wake up pc except my mouse and keyboard which have always been set to wake pc and never used to have this problem

any ideas would be most helpful

BIOS setting? Most new ones have the option to switch on the PC at a particular time and interval...

ps3ud0

Vista?

My HTPC does this, but not at 12, normally its just somewhen random between about 10pm and 1am. Its set to sleep after 10 mins of inactivtity, but it doesnt stay awake that long. It just wakes, sits there for about 2 mins, then sleeps agen.

Is there a log of a PC's activity (specifically waking/sleeping) stored anywhere?

If you have installed the TV Pack onto Vista Media Centre there are a couple of services that wake the pc up one was for the guide update and one was to check if any scedule changes had occured. My HTPC used to do it at 10pm and 3am even although the HTPC didn't have a TV card installed. My main HTPC did it aswell however as it wasn't in the bedroom I never noticed it was waking up every night. Other users reported it doing it at midnight also.

There is no option to disable these updates so I wrote a batch file to stop the services before the PC went to sleep using the MCE standby tool to run the batch file before it put the PC to sleep. More information on thegreenbutton.com if you have installed this pack.

I had this happen with my pc a couple of years ago. I don't have Vista so this may not apply.

I checked the Bios and everything was as it should be and set to off.
What I didn't know is that it needed was to be turned off from within Windows as well.

This may or may not work as I carn't really remember what I did but I do remember it was something like this:-

Open System Manager
Select Hardware
Select Device Manager.
Select Network Adapters
Select your card.
Select Advanced Tab and turn off "wake up capabilities"
Select Power Management and set it to "allow the computer to turn off this device".

I'm think that was it.

Have you got wake on lan or anything turned on? Maybe your router or another network device is doing something strange at midnight?

no i have checked the bios for about 10 mins last night everything is in order, im 100% sure that this must be software related but cant see what it can be very strange

i had nero 9 installed which had nero live which was defintly booting pc up at 12 everynight i then uninstalled this via the uninstall in windows maybe somethings left in the registry as i didnt use a 3rd party uninstaller which cleans the regisrty.

Edit: Think i have cracked it just checked registry and there were some leftovers ie: nero showtime and vison i have now deleted these just had to wait till 12 now
