Hi as above no blue screens just the pc shut down unexpectably from desktop then the option to restart in safe\normal.

So have run memtest for 4 hrs, prime for 5 hrs and did a hard drive error check all negative no high temps (although the S\B was too hot to touch, have since put a heatsink on it),Also did a clean install 3 times and got the above when starting to install updates.

Any ideas on what it could be

Sounds like its a few years old, so I'd put money on the power supply being the issue. They don't put particularly good units in those OEM computers.

Thanks as its a Dell c521 is non standard any way to test a psu with a meter before any more money gets spent on it

Must be the time of the year of with the "pc keeps shutting down" problem i also had this, in end, i just built new system old system was coming up to 5 years old around september.

Thanks for the reply, only its not mine its the nephews, anyway got it running on an old spare psu with the case in bits at the moment to see if that solves it and then go from there.

Just to update been running all day without a hitch, so must have been the psu if it crashes again it for the recycle bin and he can upgrade sooner than he thinks.

Thanks
