PC keeps stopping on start up

Hi All,

Strange fault bugging my PC, on-start up the PC just dies, and not always at the same point.

Sometimes just before windows loads, maybe just after, but usally within 2 mins of pressing the ON button, often when entering my e-mail account.
When it fails which is on most start attemps, I need to turn my PSU OFF then ON again, as if it needs to reset a fault, on the 2 or 3rd attempt to start, things will be fine as if all is ok, then I can spend hours gaming without trouble.
Is the only way to solve this problem a case of unplugging internals 1 at a time??, could it be the PSU (hiper 580W 14 months old), seems possible!!.

It there any chance it could be software related, system has been checked for bugs, virus infection etc, all clean.

System is P4 2.8 @ 3.4gigs, Abit IC7, 1 gig crucial tracer, Raptor 74g and Seagate 80g hdds, both Sata, Inno 6800gt agp, couple of CD drives, belkin lan card and wired router. the system has run without trouble since buildtime about 18 months ago :( .

Any help or advise to save hours of investigation would be great.

Thanks Box.
