PC lagging so hard in Windows 10

MY PC is laghging so hard for the last 30 mins. to the extent that if I move the mouse there is like a 3 second delay. stuttering. even typing this is so delayed. what on earth?

well whatever it was a simple reset seems to have fixed it. weird though, seemed to be "system" ... bit vague.

I did wonder that (has happened before and then when restarting I saw it was updating) but nothing on restart.

Could have been AV running a scan, although it should only do a routine scan when idle.
