First of all my PC isn't great. Basic specs are E6750 @ 2.6GHz and 4GB DDR2 RAM.

I only upgraded to 4GB Yesterday, previously running on 2GB. Since having the 4GB, I've noticed something strange. When I'm installing things, for example Microsoft Office and try to multitask, my whole PC will get random lag spikes which I never noticed before even on 2GB RAM.

What could be causing this?

Cheers

Could be unstable RAM. Run a memtest for each stick individually and then together?

How did you upgrade it? Did you replace the 2gb kit with a 4gb kit, or added 2gb with your current 2gb? How many RAM sticks are in the system now?

Is there lots of HD activity ?

I'm not exactly sure what this means - I do have 2 HDD's installed though.

I only have 2 RAM Slots on my mobo, so I just replaced the 1 X 1GB Kit with a 2 X 2GB Kit.

Cheers

EDIT - I'll run a Memtest on both sticks now and see what it reports back. Is their anything similar I can use to test both of my HDD's?

I did check the event viewer but couldn't see any 'red' issues.

Maybe it's just my pc in general being normal? They were only small lag spikes but were quite frequent.

Cheers

Without having to open my PC and pull the HDD's out, is their a piece of software that will tell me exactly what models the HDD's are?

Thanks

Most of the free temp monitoring programs will tell you, CPUID's HW Monitor lists mine.

Otherwise you could try Everest, Belarc or similar

I think I'll just see how it goes. I notice it only seems to do it more when I'm installing from my secondary harddrive.

Cheers. :)

Their was a piece of bootable software we used to use at work when sending new pcs out. It would test every component. Any idea what it might be called? I can't remember...

Cheers
