PC locking up

Hi all, i'm having a 'head banging on desk' time with my PC, can anybody help?

System:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ Black Edition, Watercooled
Asus M2N32 WS Pro nForce 590 SLi. Bios:1802, running default settings
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3
Raptor 74Gb
Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Hiper 730w PSU

Nothing overclocked, all Drivers up-to date.

Problem: Random Lock ups in windows, memtest, once in Bios

The only way I can get the system to run stable enough to do anything at the moment is to run the 'AI Gear' utility and turn it down to 'Max power saving' then I can play Eve or run 3dmark for a while.

Anybody got any idea?

Please ask for any other info you need.

Thanks all

Can you manage to get through a full pass of memtest at all without it locking up?
Wish I had a bits box with a W/C kit in it.

could be power issue i had a 550w hiper psu when i did a psu test on it it was only outputting 350w hiper psu arnt that great at all

if its locking up in memtest, bios could be memory issue...

ps is the cpu being detected correctly?

Thanks for the replies all,

update: Took one stick of ram out last night, got up this morning and the PC ran through 4 rounds of 3dmark and half an hour of Eve online with no problems at all.

Put the second stick back in and 3dmark crashed after the first test. ah-ha Good news you may think.

Took the stick out again and now the PC crashes with one stick in!!?

Got it unplugged for a while then going to run memtest on each stick in turn.

Then probably throw it through the window and see what bundles Overclockers has on the go at the moment :D:eek:

p.s Yep, CPU being detected correctly

Ok, Been Memtesting this morning, both sticks, 1 stick etc etc....

Memtest just grinds to a halt, 58secs to 19minute's in to the testing, no errors detected or anything, I managed to get through 1 complete pass on one stick once.

Odd thing is that the timer just stops but the red flashing + sign at the stop still flashes.

Been out for a couple of hours, got back, memtest stuck on 1 minute something.

Reset the system and this time it's sailing through, just finished a third pass with no problems!!!!!!!!

I really hate random odd problems

I think i'm going to start with ordering a new PSU and try that.
