pc locking up

hi ive installed a q6600, i tried overclocking to 3 and 3.4 but after a few resets due to overclocking failure, i got a ati error message so ive un-installed and re=installed the ati drivers and reset bios defaults.

When i run a game im getting distorted sound and frequent lock-ups in bc2 ,mw2 and fear benchmark, im running windows 7 home.
I think i might have corrupted my windows install, i think it would have been a good idea to make a backup disk first,

have you got any ideas before i reinstall windows.

i have installed an old hard drive which has windows 7 already on, as i was using this before i got my f3.

i tried to load bc2 but only got to the map loading stage, i restarted pc and now as soon as i get to windows i get a blue screen saying hardware failure and it is shuting down, i have reset cmos and this hasnt help.

can anyone help
