PC Locks up when playing DVD

Whenever i play my new DVD on my PC, the hard drive activity light stays on, and the whole pc locks up completely... no sound or video... it just locks everything up. It happened on my friends PC aswell... Could it have anything to do with it being copied by one of my friends?
 
try a genuine DVD brought from a shop, if the same problem occurs then its not the drive but the disc, or look on the back of the disc and try to look for breaks on the recorded part of the disc or physical damage.

It is a Genuine DVD... Sorry i meant that my friend made a copy for his personal use from my genuine DVD... and ever since he made the copy from my disk, my disk wont work.... :)
 
does the lock up happen with all dvds or just that one, and also try his copy of the disc or his machine to see if the same problem occur this if it happens on his machine or another pc because if the probelm still occurs, then its is most liekly a problem with your disc.
 
Unreadable media will hang Windows like a MOFO, the File System is so Fragile.

Try grabbing ISO Buster, and press left Shift key and insert your DVD (it wont auto run then), run ISO Buster and try read a good copy of it to a new ISO or such.

It will soon tell you if disc needs cleaned or has bad sectors but wont hang Windows as it runs outside the Windows File System in its own version.
