PC making odd noise

What's a 2-pin molex? I've seen 4,6,8 pin molexes, 20 and 24 pin molexes. I've never seen a 2-pin.

I second the RAM suggestion. DDR 2 RAM runs at 1.8Vs by default. Which RAM are you running? Which slots did you put it in, some boards are picky about which slots you use.

Cheers guys

I have 2x1GB Crucial ballistix 8500 and 2x 2GB Kingston HyperX 8500.

Kingston is in slot 1 and 3, and crucial is in slot 2 and 4

Chris, i meant 4 pin, not 2

Ill re seat the ram and see if that helps :)

And make sure that your CPU heatsink fan is plugged into the CPU header on the motherboard and not in a System fan or Power fan header, otherwise your motherboard will think that your CPU fan stopped working - hence the bleeping :)

on the gigabyte boards it is listed as CPU_FAN on the board (sounds silly to say it, but if you didn't know you might have missed it!)

right,

DDR18V is gone, I think it was some dust that had got caught.

The fan WAS plugged into the wrong one on the mobo, HOWEVER, all the fan point son the mobo are 3 pin, apart form the CPU fan which is a 4pin. the problem is that the cable coming from the CPU fan (Thermaltake big typhoon) is a 3 pin.

Any ideas?

you can still plug the 3pins connectors into the four pin on tyour mobo, the three pin has grooves on the back so will only fit on the correct three pins.

. . . .

those three as above

cheers

I tried that, but the CPU didnt come on all the time, and when it did, BIOS didnt recognise it as being on.

I have just tired it in the PWR_FAN one, the alarm has stopped now.

Although DDR18V has come back. LOL (ill just keep re seating the RAM)

at the end of the day we all have to start somewhere.

even that guy that 'modified' his x16 PCI-E card with a hacksaw to fit into the x4 PCI-E physical slot?

I should point out that the OP doesn't seem 'dumb' to me, but then - there are limits. Taking hacksaws to your hardware is right up there.

Sorry, maybe I shouldnt of said that,, and at the end of the day we all have to start somewhere. No hard feelings?

yeh no problems :)

and cheers chris.

Anyway, as I said, the noise has stopped, dont know what it was that did it, most probably putting the CPU fan into the PWR_Fan plug i think!

Prob yeh cos its dosent know that the cpu fan is connected in a diff socket, so its warning you that the cpu fan isnt connected, its spinning below the min speed or its not spinning at all.

I done some real stupid things with pcs, but if you never do dumb things, you wouldnt learn much would you?

Edit: that would be good as a new thead "The dumb/stupid things youve done building/upgrading pcs over the years".

I see you are using a "Thermaltake big typhoon" as this is bigger than the stock cooler it runs slower, thus creating a beeping alarm when using the CPU FAN header, this can be turned off in BIOS by telling it to ignore the fan speed.

Had this issue myself and OP taking out your warning alarm is like taking the batteries out your fire alarm:eek:, put it back in!

Cheers for your reply, but I have been using the BT for nearly 3 years now and had no problems, it was only since I re wired.

and if you read, I also did not know it was the alarm I took out, and it is back in now
