PC Market Growing says EA

PC has and always will be a niche gaming platform. Is it really any wonder? Console - take it out of the box plug it in. No blue screens, no os, no crashes, no patches, no installs, no hastle.

Are you living in 1991 or something?

No crashes? No installs? No patches? No OS?

Hmm, I think the PS3 and 360 have the installs, operating systems, patches and crashes bit sorted.
All the consoles need now are some damn annoying "anti-piracy" software and they will actually be PC's, ugly, but still PC's.

He probably did, and disagrees with it, claiming games stores have less selection of PC games now more than ever, just because MMOs and The Sims are raking in the money does not reflect on the industry as a whole. Thats like saying the Dreamcast was a booming sucess because Shen Mu, Soul Calibur etc were so popular.
EA sees the profitable aspects of markets and exploits, so expect to see more Sims and more MMO.

Wait...WAIT.

So, no consoles game have needed patches, none of them have crashed?

No hassle? Howcome so many people can't play the PS3 version of GTA IV without it constantly crashing?

Getting RROD on your Xbox 360 and waiting weeks or going down the shops for a replacement isn't hassle?

Personally my PC hasn't crashed since I installed Vista (over 8 months ago) and I've had zero blue screens.

That's not what the article says at all.

It says that retail is not a good way to look at PC sales. Because most sales are online or digital only. So just because the PC shelf in your local shop is tiny, it doesn't mean there isn't a lot of money to be made.

I think its probably down to the fact that you get so much more for your money now..

A basic, cheap pc, a few years ago would just about run windows, now the same money will get you a decent machine that will run most new games.

Maybe not with full eye candy but good enough for most people.

Precisely, they have the funds to revive a flagging market for their own benefit. A new Sims or NFS every year is not a sign of an expanding, vibrant market.

EA are out to make money first and foremost to think anything else would give them far too much credit.

No crashes/patches is obviously a falsehood but the I presume what the poster was alluding to is the fair amount of knowledge required to patch/get pc games running AT TIMES. Compared to a console game where a patch will be release and automatically applied with little user interaction.

Now for a PC game, this may involve multiple steps, which for many is 1 step too many.

Good point only The Sims and a NFS game came out on the PC last year. My mistake.

What else came out that was wholely unique and different?

Even when i browse online stores i cant find anything that tickles my fancy.

Cod4 has died a death for me, crysis was not my cup of tea online and was over quite fast, fun but a letdown in terms of longetivity.
Orange box was good, though i havnt bothered finishing ep2.
Supcom wasnt my cup of tea, nor was CoH, though i admit both are good games
C+C3 was fairly rubbish im my truly honest opinion.
Vegas2 isnt that great.
Assasins creed is repetitive.

To be honest all platforms are suffering at the moment, but PC is more neglected than others.
My most played games right now are WC3(dota/custom-maps) and CS1.6, and the free trackmania off steam(though im thinking it aint gunna be long till im bored of that)
Pro evo gets a good run when theres a few mates gathered, its a let down though.

Most companies are trying to focus on profits which is meaning a lot of samey-samey stuff coming out, added with the fact that a few devs no-longer want to put as much into PC due to piracy and variable hardware etc..

Yeah, sorry I meant to add, FIFA, NHL, NBA Live, Harry Potter, oh wait, whats the difference...

Try adding, Portal, Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2 Episode 2, Call of Duty 4, Company of Heroes: Opposing Front, Unreal Tournament 3, Crysis, SimCity Societies, Hellgate: London, Age of Empires III:The Asian Dynasties, Flight Sim X, Time Shift, The Witcher...

I could go on, and I could add casual games and flash games, but I can't be bothered.
