PC Market Growing says EA

Pull a random guy (or girl) off the street. An ask them the run GTA IV on the pc and console. Most will struggle to get the pc working.
Anyone on here would too seeing as GTA4 is not on the PC.

I would've made a serious reply but mr.sly already covered it for me very nicely.

Looking on the front page of the PC thread and we see a few threads about oldish games and only 1 new one

That's part of what the PC is all about though; variety of titles, huge back catalogue, people playing certain games online for years, fantastic modding community etc. The PC market is much less fickle than the console market (where anything older than PS3/XB360/Wii doesn't get a look in).

Taking a quick glance at the Console first page, it seems to me that apart from GTA4 there aren't many threads about current new games either, only unreleased ones like GH4, MGS4, GoW2 etc. So I don't think looking at what people are talking about most recently is necessarily a good indicator as to what games have recently hit the market.

Well, I'd like to see someone on this forum getting GTA IV working on PC I really would. :)

Sure PC is more hassle than consoles, but I don't define hassle as updating drivers because I'm not an idiot, remember this is my personal opinion (forum) and I wasn't speaking for the general population.

Edit: Also what mr.sly said, anybody who actually plays PC games should be able to figure out how to update drivers, as for asking any random person then going to up to an old dear and asking them is hardly fair.

Anyone who is argueing that the PC market is going to fall flat on it's face in here; you may as well give up. This is a PC hardware forum in the PC games section, no one here will listen to a word you have to say ;).

Fact: My mother can install programs on the PC. If she can do it then anyone can learn, seriously.

We're listening to them, it's not our fault that the facts say they're wrong.

Can we just point out that most Joe Public always use the sit on the sofa infront of TV playing games arguement and say theyd rather just put the disc in and play as to why console > PC?

a lot of people are turned off with the million+1 things that could go wrong with a PC for playing games, or need updating etc, as well as the fact they dont understand components and buy from high street shops.
So the whole 'get vista to do it' etc etc malarky is rubbish.

I dont even own a console for the record, I guess my problem is that i think most games nowadays are utter crap.

That gamespot top games of 07 sums it up for me, nothing I really like other than orangebox, which tbh i cant get into tf2, still havnt bothered finishing ep2 and replay portal once in a while.

People like the ease of putting the disc in, logging into PSN/live and letting it matchmake for them. Consoles are much more automated which is why Joe public prefers them.. Joe public also has a lower standard than PC game-players in my opinion, meaning its easier to shift crud onto them.
I laughed that gears is in the 2007 top PC games.. dull dull game.

Mr sly what comes out on PC first? Just you said PC gets things before console.. GTAs? Gears? Assasins Creed? We dont even have the next gen Fifa on PC.

To me, that is the one major put-offs for console gaming online, I hate being forced to join a server that ends up full of idiotic american brats.

TO me those game can stay console, as thats where they belong, but you just cannot beat a game like battlefield, or a sim like live for speed. At the end of the day whats on console is whats on console, but a PC is unbeatable in a lot of areas.

That much is obvious, nobody here is denying that.

Aye that explains why people have stopped buying Xbox 360s... Oh, wait.

I didn't post that list to see if you liked any of the games on it, I posted it to demonstrate that a lot of quality titles came out in 2007.

There are games on that list that I am not interested in or haven't played, but if I said that games such as Sins Of A Solar Empire weren't widely acclaimed and well-made games I'd simply be lying my arse off.

I have been playing a lot of GTA4 online recently over Xbox Live and I have to agree. In my entire gaming life I have never seen (well, heard) such infantile, whining, stupid, and racist crap as I have on there.

If anyone is going to try to tell me that the online community on consoles is superior, I ain't seeing it.

You need to read what I was quoting as well, otherwise it's out of context. The point was PC gaming usually innovates before anyone else. FPS, RTS, RPGs all started out on PCs. Online gaming has been a must for PC games for years now, but we're only just starting to see console games come with MP with the 360.

Then you have downloadable content, digital distribution, MMOs, simulators, mods.

Ulf im saying IN MY OPINION i dont really rate many of those games, and half of joe public havnt heard of them unless they are console games aswell.

Consoles are much bigger business than PC games and my arguement is that its probably going to turn into a case of the market being saturated with unorigional clones, the proven money makers.. ie. MMOs and The Sims.. Basically EA.

ahhh I get you sly, sorry didnt see it that way. Yes the PC does lead in innovation.. but that doesnt mean that PC gaming will survive, as downloadable concent, digital distribution etc is available on consoles now, so the PCs losing a unique selling point there.

I admit the PC games market isnt in bad shape, I can just see it getting bad due to the fact EA flood the market with rubbish, everyone seen how much MMOs can make and want to jump on that bandwagon.
Few devs are jumping ship due to consoles being easier to handle, more widely available, less pirated etc.

thats how i see things nowadays atleast, as someone who prefers PC as a platform.

Jesus, I just told you that I didn't post that list for your opinion. Also you seem to know a lot about this Mr. Joe Public and what he likes, not to mention what he's heard of, so could you provide me with some sources?

I also addressed this in my last post, I have to wonder if you're actually reading these replies or just spewing your opinion all over the place. Yes we know that consoles are a much bigger market, because yes we know that people in general prefer the simplicity of them. I don't see anyone denying these points?

However what you just said about the market being saturated with unoriginal clones is a bit misinformed. Yes MMOs and The Sims expansions are the big sellers on the PC but the top ten sales charts from last year also had games like Call Of Duty 4, Command & Conquer 3, Sim City 4 and Age Of Empires III. All solid titles.

Also, I would like to point out that the NPD group who were tracking sales did not track digital sales.

I would've loved to have seen a top 20 as well as a top 10 as I would bet my bottom dollar you'd see less The Sims expansions and more hugely popular titles outside that franchise, but you can't have it all I guess.

Source for top ten sales and digital downloads not counting toward it here.

I understand what you're saying.

But I just don't see PC gaming going anywhere. Consoles are getting closer and closer to PCs each generation so in the future I think we'll see a bigger push on PCs and maybe people like Dell, HP and others setting a minimum hardware requirement on the PCs they sell for the GPU included, making it much simpler for developers to know what to code for.

Also, I don't see consoles as being a bigger buisness either. I think you're forgetting about casual games that PopCap make. There are millions of Windows users around the world and a lot of money to be made. Even Battlefield Heroes can run on an intergrated Intel chip, and that game is looking very good indeed.
