Hey ppl. Left my computer on all day while i was at work sunday, came back and the computer was off.

Tried restarting it and nothing. I could smell burning from the back of the power supply so i no something serious is up

The computer doesnt boot up whatsoever, the switch at the back of the powersupply lights up when i click it from off to on.

Just any help really, how can i find what has fried etc etc.Baught all the bits off here Nov 2005. Any help at all is appreciated or any steps i can take to see which part/parts are the problem.

First thing to do is take a look inside the case to see if there are any signs of burning to the mobo, graphics and mem.Sounds like maybe the mobo may have burned. If all looks ok then try changing the psu if possible to rule that out.

Well when i smelt the back of the comp where the fan for the hyper power supply is that stunk of burning, but if the power supply has burnt would the button light up when i click the power supply on but still not power the pc up.or does thsi suggest something else.

The button could still light up with a faulty psu and as said earlier don't open the psu unless totally competent.

Yeah...I just hope it hasn't taken out any of the components...with the gadgets on new decent psus it should be ok but I guess in some hipers this itself fails to cut in as ive read a lot of people have had hardware taken out, specifically mobos by these psus....ive also got one the same model as that by looks of things i just hope it doesnt die and if it does be good and not take my system with it :(

If the smell is from the PSU, its likely to be that, its usually quite obvious when its the PSU.

I wouldnt recommending trying to turn it on while that PSU is still in there. Check for signs of damage on the other parts, which is pretty much all you can do now, and replace the PSU.

Yet another Hiper fails... :(

Thanks guys for the help. Took the hyper out today im sure even tho tis a few days ago it happened i can smell bad fumes in it. Look at other components and cant see to see any bad signs.

Im going to go for another power supply today sometime, whats recommended these days then?

I had the 580 w hyper but some1 put yet another hyper fails. So any suggestions would be nice.

Again thanks for any help i have recieved.Top forums.

yeah seems to be a run on 580 hypers failing lately.

corsair as mentioned above is good choice. whats your system spec ??? if it aint uber then the crosair 520 may do you wich is cheapr

Remove the psu immediately and do not try to power on again. If you do you can blow the rest of your system. Test a new psu.

I did take it out and its downstairs here now.

Just a psu to get later today and try that, fingers crossed.

System is ok i guess nothign special.

Opteron 148
2 gig geil ram

Any suggestions on power needed or any links to what ocuk sell ont here site.

Thanks again for the help.
