PC microphone?

why are you so anti to head set mics? I find them far superior. Just stop being cheap and get a decent one, people ive heard using desk top ones have always had nasty sound quailty and can hear their game in the background because it has no sound canceling which is just irritating even if they are using push to talk. Also the sound quality of the senhier head sets is also very good considering. But i spent £60 on mine.

Because theres either hassle with the cables or the battery's if wireless ( I'd go with wireless tho, as I absolutely hate cables on headphones).
Then there's voice activation, which is annoying for people living with others like me, if I tell my parents I'm busy or they shout from downstairs all of that gets transmitted so I prefer push to talk.

If you use push to talk anyways, you might as well use speakers, just careful not to transmit when others are talking...

Also, I love 5.1, I use it actively to locate where people are, hate stereo now for anything but music ( for music I just do stereo x2). And since switching between 5.1 speakers and 5.1 headphones is a massive hassle ( as my speakers only have 2.0 headphone out), I just prefer to stick with speakers and only use headphones when my parents moan about the noise.

All of this simply makes me like desktop mics much more, just much less work to get it working or configuring it when you also want/prefer speakers.

I use two sound cards myself - have tv/music routed out through my speakers into 5.1 and then my gaming sound card does the job for my 5.1 headphones (5.1 in headphones is a bit of a gimmick though - you'll find that stereo headphones are just as good or better than 5.1 speakers or headphones in /re to locating people).

So do I, still a hassle as you need to set up each app properly which card to use. I mean, in the old days I used to have headphones in my onboard soundboard and my 5.1 into my soundblaster, you had to make sure vent and ts etc use the onb. one and games the creative one... It's just more of a hassle than to just hold V when you want to talk and not bother with any headphones.

As for 5.1, it really does help, I often have to play with headphones at night because of parents and it REALLY annoys me just having stereo to locate the enemy, in older games it doesn't matter but in new games where the devs weren't such lazy ****s to program 5.1 properly it makes a big difference.

Hmm.. I'm not that sold on the 5.1. Perhaps it's just that the 5.1 headphonesI have are rubbish. I found the difference very noticable when on speakers however.

It's a bit annoying but not that bad /re making things use the right soundcard. Set your gaming/headphones one as default and then manually set winamp/vlc/etc to use the secondary sound card. Not perfect, but okay :)

I got a plantronics headset for gaming. Cost about £25. Good enough sound, noise cancelling mic, adjustable volume/adjustable mic sensitivity.

Bargain.

Then again, I prefer headsets for gaming - I have tried the desk mounted ones and didn't get on with them. Headsets > desk mounted for clarity of voice, IME.

im using a £20 logitech headset but the volume control thing on the wire has broken. this happened within a week of purchase but i coudnt be arsed to return it. but other then that i think the mic isnt too bad
